Antigua Travel Guide: Sailing Week, Food, Beaches & Island Adventures! | Caribbean Vlog
Arrival in Antigua: Island Paradise & Resort Life
We kick off our Caribbean adventure in Antigua, checking in at the Verandah Resort. Our first dilemma? Pool or beach! We settle on some morning swimming, careful to avoid sunburn, and then head for the sun-drenched sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters. Antigua famously boasts 365 beaches—one for every day of the year!
Poolside Eats & Island Weather
After a refreshing dip, we enjoy cheeseburgers and coconut smoothies on the beach—just in time to dodge a tropical rain shower. Island weather changes quickly, but good food always saves the day!
Antigua Sailing Week: Chase the Race Experience
We’re in Antigua during the legendary Sailing Week, so we join the “Chase the Race” event aboard a catamaran, following sailboats around the island’s stunning blue waters. We learn about the regatta’s history—started in 1968 to extend the tourism season, now one of the island’s biggest events. Our day includes swimming in the sea, delicious buffet lunch, and incredible views of hundreds of sailboats.
Reggae in the Park & Island Vibes
Thanks to Sailing Week, we get to join the lively “Reggae in the Park” event, featuring international music acts, island rhythms, and a vibrant local crowd.
Cooking Class: Caribbean Dishes with Rum!
At Nicole’s Table, we join a “Cooking with Rum” class. We learn to make coconut crisps, sweet potato soup, rum-marinated flank steak, bacon-wrapped plantains, red beans and rice, and a butter rum cake for dessert. The class includes a rum tasting with local and French varieties—delicious and educational!
Sunday at Shirley Heights: BBQ & Sunset
No visit to Antigua is complete without experiencing Shirley Heights. On Sunday nights, everyone—locals and visitors—gathers here for live music, rum drinks, an incredible barbecue feast, and unforgettable sunset views over English Harbour.
More Beaches, Resort Life & St. John’s Capital Visit
We spend more days soaking up the sun at Galley Bay and exploring local resorts. When the rain lets up, we visit St. John’s, Antigua’s colorful capital, to stroll the streets and enjoy the Caribbean city vibe.
Big Banana: The Best Pizza in Town
While looking for traditional Caribbean food in St. John’s, everyone recommends Big Banana, famous for its pizza. We cool off with smoothies—coconut crush and strawberry—and share meat-lover and pepperoni pizzas, loaded with toppings and flavor. Highly recommended!
BBQ at Pineapple Beach Club
Dinner at the Pineapple Beach Club’s “Outhouse” means a classic Caribbean BBQ feast: ribs, steak, corn-on-the-cob, pasta salad, and more, enjoyed with panoramic sea views.
Island Eats, Drinks & Desserts
Throughout our stay, we savor fresh seafood, garden salads, rum cake, and all kinds of fruity desserts. Coconut crushes become our go-to island drink—sweet, creamy, and refreshing.
